I am looking forward to seeing this movie. There is some classic eastwood in the trailer. This will be a dad and I flick over the holidays.

    Looks good. Eastwood rarely disappoints.

This one is getting good buzz (not great), but like JL said, Eastwood moveies are usually a soild pick.

Looks like Milk is getting the nod from SAG and Benjamin Button is now getting a lot of run for Oscar.

Interesting that Mickey Rourke is getting pegged as a Best Actor contender for The Wrestler.

Some decent movies coming out this month.

        It's about time.

Is it just me, or has it been a bad year for quality movies?

I agree, but I also think that when I was kid, the movies were still bad...I was just less discerning.

I purposely didn't mention Valkyrie.....a very interesting subject matter that is destined to fail (artistically) because it stars Tom Cruise. "We have to kill Hitler" in a lame American accent kind of ruins it for me. This movie would have been better cast with newcomers.

I know robinfinderson has mentioned slumdog millionaire. I would echo his sentiments that it looks like a really good view. Also getting lots of praise.

The holiday sappiness must be getting to me, because I want to give Will Smith a try in Seven Pound. There is allegedly a twist in the plot, so I am intrigued. Truthfully, most of his movies suck, but every once in awhile, he does something I enjoy. They tend to be his serious pieces (Pursuit and Ali, for example). Is this one going to be good? Hope so.

I agree about Valkyrie and Cruise. It is almost (but not really) as bad as Kevin Costner playing Robin Hood. If you havn;'t seen the latter do not rush out and rent it. Really. Don't.
            PLesa excuse the tpyos.

I remember being so disappointed in Robin Hood. Saw it it college. First, I consider Costner to be one of the most overrated actors of our time. He is horrible, with a few exceptions.

Second, Robin Hood was a travesty. Forgetting the acting for a second and overlookingryan Adams theme song....did it bother anyone else that he didn't even really bust out his archery very much? I was hoping for much more in that department. The movie was weak.

ps costner movies that I liked:

              1. Field of Dreams
              2. Untouchables (saved by Pacino and Connery. Costner is the worst actor of the bunch.....his line at the end to Capone..."Never stop, never stop fighting until the fight is done"....I think it was supposed to be a poignant moment, but it wasn't...go back and watch that scene and listen to his wooden deliver....yikes)
              3. Dances with Wolves....convinced that this one was good only because much of the movie is spent with him not saying anything. Always a good thing.
              4. Bull Durham

You nmissed the best one, IMO, Silverado. He was pretty good in that. Field of Dreams wasn't bad. I thought Dances with Wolves was an abomination.

I agree with you that Costner is incredibly over rated. He is almost always horrible (except for SIlverado) and even when the movie isn't bad (Field of Dreams) it is despite his horrible acting.

One of the worst movies ever. Showing his bare ass didn't help matters.

The deal with Kevin Costner is that he's a sucky actor but seems like a cool guy. In movies where he doesn't have to act but merely plays himself going through various situations, eg. playing ball, golfing, delivering mail in post-apocalyptic America (ok, maybe not that one) he puts out a decent product.

Oh, and I liked Open Range, but then again KC didn't talk much.

Plus it spawned "Everything I Do, I do it for You" by Bryan Adams.
