  • Booz to opt out of contract.

Someone convince me that this is a big deal? I feel confident in 'Sap at the PF position and he will be cheaper than Booz...

I like Boozer, but he is an awful defender. He's also a pretty fragile guy.

And he suffered a set back in his rehab. Now that he's announced he'll opt out, I hope the Jazz take advantage of getting something for him now. I doubt they'll be able to do it, but I'm hoping.

Over or under on Boozer playing 42 games this year. I say under. He is a joke and I can't wait until that big ass nose of his is no longer in a Jazz uni.

This is really going to put a damper in BrazilCoug's prediction that the Jazz would win 3 championships in the next 5 years with Boozer and Williams.

With any luck, Washington will overpay him to sit on the bench with injuries. There is a tendency to do that with star players around these parts.

Sounds to me like there is a decent chance he will re-sign with the Jazz.

My only concern with trading him just to get something back is do we kill our needed cap space for DWill, Memo, Milsap, Brewer in the coming years if we take someone in a trade so as to not just let Boozer walk away?

A month ago I had concerns about 'Sap being able to handle the full-time PF duties. I worried that he wouldn't be consistent enough to get it done.

A month later, and after 10 or so straight double-doubles, I am less worried. I'm fine if the Jazz want to let Boozer walk, or move him in a sign and trade for draft pick(s). Right now the only concern that I have with letting Boozer go is how it will effect Williams. I know he and Boozer play well together, and the Jazz record with Boozer out hasn't been great. I am not going to be too upset though if Boozer, on his own accord, decides to walk and leave Utah. I think there are enough pieces in place right now (with the only one that really matters being Williams) that the Jazz can remain competitive and with a few moves assuming Boozer leaves, be considered title contenders.

I think this is the biggest concern about letting Booz walk that many of the Boozer haters don't get. If they Jazz appear to just let him walk does Williams start to plan his escape from SLC also?

And, I think that as long as the Jazz make a fair market attempt to re-sign Boozer, Williams will understand. If Boozer takes less money and less years to go play in Miami, there is not much you can do to change that.

Of course, if I had to pick between keeping Boozer or Brewer and Millsap, that decision becomes very clear, even for D-Will I think.

That would be my only concern also. However, the longer Boozer doesn't play, the easier it becomes for D-Will to not care if he leaves. Williams rushed back from his injury and is just now starting to be himself. Boozer has a history of milking them as long as possible. I am not a Boozer hater. I am fine with him coming back, but not at the expense of Milsap and Brewer.

Booze has serious talent, but this is Deron's team, he deserves teammates with heart. Trade Boozer, I don't care if he doesn't play another game in a Jazz uni.

I am surprised by how the tone has shifted for Jazz fans and Boozer. 2 summers ago, Jazz fans were ready to dry hump Boozer's left leg after he and Williams went to the WCF.

Now people are indifferent, almost wanting him to go.

Be honest....how much of this is really indifference to Boozer and how much of this is the nagging stomach acid creeping up the pipes at the thought of another player spurning the Jazz to play elsewhere?

Boozer plays lousy D, but he is a great complimentary player. I think the biggest mistake in using Boozer is that he is viewed as a legit second option with the ocassional game as the first option.

I have always maintained that Boozer is, at best, a second option, but better suited to be the third option on a Jazz team. He is much like Lamar Odom for the Lakers in that Lamar shines every now and then in a starring role, but when he doesn't have pressure, he is more consistent.

btw, I was pretty impressed by Sap in the Laker series this past summer. He is nowhere near the all-around player needed to contend for a title. Frankly, I am not sure what the Jazz can realistically do. they are in a tough position.
