  • Half-Marathon Training Schedules

For those of you who've run them can you post what your training schedule was like, or provides links to schedules that you used which worked for you?

    Thanks.

(This one requires a previous race time of any distance)

I've trained for 7 marathons using Hal Higdon. I've never done a 1/2 marathon training schedule, per se, but you can't go wrong with Higdon.

Are you thinking about doing Salt Lake?

Hey I like that one, never seen that before. Thanks.

I will use it if I ever decide to start running again. Either that or when winter ends, whichever comes first.

        Yes I am.

I just got back from Wasatch Running Center and after consulting with the guy there, I bought my 1st ever pair of running shoes and a pair of Balga socks.

          What shoes did you get?

            Hey thanks.

Do you know of a similar online nutrition/eating schedule that goes hand in hand with something like this?

I don't. I know Nancy Clark has a lot of articles that are geared towards runners. Search around the Runners World web site.

Also, a bit of unsolicited advice. Salt Lake is a very hard race to train for, mostly because it takes place in April, which means you'll be training in the dead of winter. If you're like me and hate treadmills, be prepared to run on ice and snow. I do most of my winter runs on the Jordan River Parkway so I don't have to worry about a car sliding into me on the road. You can also buy spikes that you slip over your running shoes.

Good luck. Feel free to BM me w/ any questions. I'm full of useless running knowledge.

My wife swears by this FIRST program. It's designed for only 3 days per week of running, but she also does a 4th day per week of running hills.

I'll echo this. I bought the book and I think it's useful, but not totally necessary. I cut significant time off my PR (1:45) with this and trained completely injury-free (or even ache-free), which is pretty unusual for me. It's a great program.

I only did the three runs per week, because all of my runs are hill runs (well, except for track workouts), by necessity. I did all the cross-training workouts.
At least the Big Ten went after a big-time addition in Nebraska; the Pac-10 wanted a game so badly, it added Utah

This is the program I tried. I didn't survive it but to be fair, I jumped in late so that probably didn't help. I really liked the program.

I tried on 7 different pair and settled on the Mizuna Wave Inspire.

I've seen quite a few of the '26.2' stickers on cars, but lately I've seen more of the '13.1' version. I just wonder if the person starts the full marathon but then quits halfway through.

I want the '6.55' sticker - that may be more my style.
I have nothing else to say at this time.

One of my resolutions is to run a half marathon. None of the links above are active any longer.

Does anyone have a good training schedule for half marathons?
