  • Strong words from Greg Wrubell

    http://www.ksl.com/index.php?nid=498&sid=8088032

"At some point, someone in the press -- other than my very occasional heckles from the cheap seats -- needs to call for UNLV football Coach Mike Sanford to resign.

Since no one seems willing, I'll step up and make the request now. Not that I expect Sanford to start clearing out his office. After all, he has more games to lose this year.

Besides, the economy is tough, he needs the work, and his UNLV experience hasn't exactly been a resume builder.

It's nothing personal. He seems like a nice enough guy. But he's not up for the job, and it showed once again Saturday in Laramie, Wyo..."
I know that Mike Sanford has been kind of a poor sport and his teams haven't been spectacular, but was there something personal that happened between these two? It seems kind of weird to me that Wrubell would call him out like that.

He's quoting a Las Vegas sportswriter. Those words aren't Greg's.

I can't speak to any bad blood, but I find it interesting that everyone chalks up their loss in Laramie to poor coaching on Sanford's part rather than Wyoming actually playing a good game. Granted there were a couple of dumb coaching mistakes at the end (a delay of game after a timeout comes to mind) but overall Sanford coached a good game and UNLV played well enough to win. Wyoming just played a little better.

A legacy of Wyoming's last decade or so of crapitude I suppose.
There's no such thing as luck, only drunken invincibility. Make it happen.

My bad you're right. I just reread that. Those dashes in between the name of the writer and the actual quote through me off.

I'm never surprised when teams lose in Laramie. That's a tough place to play a football game.
Ain't it like most people, I'm no different. We love to talk on things we don't know about.
