I watched the Cal vs Ore game prior to the BYU game and the difference in the sound quality is amazing. On the ABC broadcast it sounds like you are in the middle of the crowd. In the mtn broadcast it sounds like there are 12 people in the crowd and they are a mile and a half away. Is anybody aware of the different methods used? It makes the game a lot less exciting when the sound quality is so poor. Don't even get me started on camera angles.

I think it has something to do with the digital feed as well as not having as many microphones pointed at the fans. It also depends on whether or not you were watching the Cal/Oregon game in HD."To the man who only has a hammer, everything he encounters begins to look like a nail."

The increased bandwidth in HD broadcasts affects both the audio and video. I'm sure ABC/ESPN also has more budget for audio with their production, but the SD vs HD is also a factor.
