  • No Tour of Georgia in '09

The Tour of GA is not happening in '09 but promises to return in '10. What do you think? It sounds like a TV show that isplaced on 'hiatus.' I hope it comes back, but I fear it may not. They had some good races and excellent attendance; I would hate to see it go.

I wouldn't mind it if Utah could take the spot. I like the terrain more.

Aren't those tours at different ends of the season, at least as now scheduled? I would love to see a tour of Utah move into that spot, as it will increase the chacne that you get some top riders. I hear that one reason GA was so poular with the European teams was becasue it was on the east coast which made travel time shorter and a smaller time change.

Yea, right now ToU is middle of august. With sports where a circuit of venues exists as in golf, tennis, nascar, it would be more advantageous to be on the front of the schedule. When you are not a major contest, interest fades as people begin to pick up new sports that are in season. I would think ToU could pick up some names and build a great event.

A brief write-up in our local paper today called Georgia the biggest US cycling event. Is this true? In terms of what?

I would say the two main things that would go into an event being called the biggest in the US would have to be crowd size and quality of riders involved. Has the Tour of Cal usurped the crown from Georgia yet? Its still new, but if they keep the momentum for a few more years, and they certainly will this year if Lance rides, then I see them very soon being the undisputed king of USA cycling.
